How to Repair a Hole in RV Grey Water Tank

How to Repair a Hole in RV Grey Water Tank

Tried marine epoxy on my old Class A's tank and it worked perfectly — but now I've drilled a 1 inch hole in my ABS grey water tank while running battery cables. The hole is in an awkward spot near the rear wheel vault with thick metal bars and beams, making repairs challenging.

What's the best way to repair this? I've prepared a patch by flattening and heat forming a pipe section, beveling edges and scouring surfaces for a strong mechanical bond. Should I cement the ABS patch and then cover with fiberglass, or are there other recommended repair methods? I want to ensure a durable fix for this tricky tank damage. …more

Thor Ace Fiberglass Rear Cap: Repair and Maintenance Guide

Halfway through my first RV ownership experience, Camping World dropped the bomb that my Thor Ace 29.2's rear cap has delamination and I'm completely clueless. The back doesn't feel like typical fiberglass - none of the other sides move like this. Is this movement normal for this RV model, or is it a sign of serious damage? …more

RV Solar Panel Z Bracket Installation: Drill vs Adhesive Mounting Guide

Ready to mount solar panels on the roof but torn between drilling through the fiberglass with Z-brackets or using VHB tape adhesive mounts. Terrified of roof leaks from drill holes but also worried the adhesive won't hold at highway speeds. Which mounting method actually holds up long term? …more

2003 Ford F53 RV Chassis Wheel Bearing Grease Guide - Best Products &

I'm wondering if my grease choice is wrong for my 2003 Ford F53's front bearing replacement when my neighbor's identical motorhome runs perfectly after his service. The original grease that came out was a dark gray/black color and while there wasn't any catastrophic damage, the races showed enough wear marks that I decided to replace everything while I'm in there.

I've been researching different options and keep seeing conflicting recommendations. Some people swear by standard lithium grease, others recommend full synthetic formulations, and I've even seen mentions of specific brands like Valvoline MaxLife and Timken. I know the F53 chassis carries significantly more weight than a typical pickup truck, so I want to make sure I'm using something that can handle the load.

I have the torque procedure down (30 ft-lbs initial, back off, then final setting at 17 in-lbs), but I want to make sure I'm pairing that proper installation with the right grease. What specific grease products work best for the F53 front wheel bearings, and are there any compatibility issues I should be aware of when selecting a replacement grease? …more
Thor ACE F53 Chassis Wheel Bearing Service & Propane Detector Replacement Guide

Thor ACE F53 Chassis Wheel Bearing Service & Propane Detector Replacement Guide

During my pre-trip inspection on my Thor ACE F53 chassis, discovered grinding wheel bearings and a dead propane detector that needs immediate replacement.

First, I desperately need to get my wheel bearings serviced/greased, but I'm having trouble finding someone who will work on them. Camping World told me they only service trailers, not motorhome chassis. I'm worried about driving much further without proper maintenance - where should I be looking for this type of service?

Second issue has me even more concerned: my propane detector started beeping constantly and wouldn't stop, so I had to pull the fuse. Now I discovered that with the fuse pulled, my slides won't operate at all! This seems like a safety feature, but I'm not sure if the detector just needs replacement or if there's a bigger problem. Are these systems really connected, and is it safe to replace the detector myself? …more

P068A Code Ford V10 RV: Complete ECM Power Relay Control Circuit Fix Guide

Check engine light came on with a P068A code on my Ford V10 motorhome. Scanned it at AutoZone and they said ECM power relay control circuit — but the engine runs fine and I have no drivability issues. Not sure if this is something I need to fix immediately or if it can wait. …more

How to Fix Cracked Norcold RV Refrigerator Door Hinge: Complete Repair Guide

How to Fix Cracked Norcold RV Refrigerator Door Hinge: Complete Repair Guide

Walked out to my 2006 Newmar 3910 after that brutal heat wave last month and the plastic around my Norcold RV refrigerator door hinge has completely cracked and given way. The door is literally falling off now, though the actual hinge hardware still seems okay - it's just that the plastic frame around the hinge pin has failed.

I'm hesitant to attempt any repairs myself since we just invested in new guts for this unit to get both 120v and propane operation working. We're currently wintering in Temecula, CA, and I don't want to damage the door frame beyond repair or create a safety hazard. Are there reliable repair methods for this type of plastic failure, or am I looking at having to replace the entire door? I'm particularly concerned about whether the door frame can be saved or if attempting a repair might make the whole situation worse. …more

Ford V10 Oil Pan Gasket Replacement Guide: Can You Reuse It?

Somewhere between my wife's third comment about oil stains under our RV and my denial phase, I realized I need to drop the oil pan on my Ford V10 2-valve engine. I remember when I did the 4R100 transmission pan, that rubber gasket was totally reusable - just cleaned it up and slapped it back on.

Is the engine oil pan gasket the same deal? Can I get away with reusing it or am I gonna need to pick up a new one? And if I do need a replacement, any recommendations on brands or installation tips? Don't want to create a mess under there! …more

Thor Ace Macerator vs Gravity Dump: Complete RV Waste System Setup Guide

Woke up to my neighbor insisting I ditch the macerator on my 2013 Thor Ace 29.2, my dealer pushing me to keep it, and YouTube saying something completely different. How exactly does this work? Like, do I need to do something to switch between them on the passenger and driver sides, or can I just use whichever one I want whenever?

I'm assuming there's gotta be some kind of valve system to control which outlet gets the flow? Just want to make sure I don't mess something up by having both open at the same time or whatever. …more

Onan 7000 Cracked Block Cover Repair - Welding vs JB Weld Fix

Got a cracked Onan 7000 block cover and I'm standing in the hardware store staring at welding rods versus JB Weld with zero clue which fix actually works. During the process of resealing the oil pressure solenoid, I made the rookie mistake of over-tightening the component, which resulted in a hairline crack developing in the block cover. The crack appears to be relatively small but is definitely present and concerning.

I'm exploring my repair options and trying to determine the best course of action without having to replace the entire block cover right now. I've heard that aluminum welding might be possible for this type of repair, but I'm not sure how successful that approach typically is on generator block covers. I'm also wondering if JB Weld could serve as a viable temporary solution to get me through this camping season.

What are the realistic expectations for both welding and JB Weld repairs on an Onan 7000 block cover hairline crack? I'd particularly like to know about the longevity and reliability of each approach, as well as any specific considerations for this type of aluminum repair work. …more
