RV MPPT Solar Controller E1 Error Code: Causes & Fixes

Halfway through troubleshooting my MPPT solar charge controller's E1 error — would this be covered under warranty, or am I stuck paying out-of-pocket? The controller was working fine for months, but now it's completely stopped charging my batteries and just displays this E1 fault code on the screen.

From what I've read, this could be related to battery over-voltage conditions or possibly some kind of wiring fault, but I want to make sure I understand all the potential causes before I start troubleshooting. I'm comfortable doing basic electrical work myself, but I also want to know when this might be something that requires professional attention for safety reasons.

Can someone provide a detailed breakdown of what the E1 error specifically indicates, walk me through the proper diagnostic steps to identify the root cause, and explain the repair process? I'd especially appreciate guidance on how to safely approach this troubleshooting and what warning signs would indicate I should call in an expert instead of attempting the fix myself. …more

RV Slide Out Moving Slowly? Complete Lubrication & Repair Guide [2024]

I tried everything I could think of, but after all that heavy rain last week, my slide out went from smooth operation to moving like molasses. It sounds like it's really struggling and straining, making these awful grinding noises that have me worried I'm going to break something expensive.

I've been reading that lubrication might be the answer, but I honestly don't know where to start. Should I be looking at the motor mechanism? The tracks? I've heard about hydraulic fluid but I'm not sure if my system is hydraulic or electric. I really need someone to walk me through what needs lubrication and what else I should check before this thing stops working completely!

Could you help me troubleshoot? Details that might help: Can you tell me the specific model of my RV and the type of slide out system it uses? …more

LiFePO4 Battery Not Charging in RV: Complete Diagnosis Guide 2024

Planning my next boondocking trip when this faint electrical burning smell started coming from my battery compartment, and my 950W flat mounted plus 1200W ground solar setup isn't charging my LiFePO4 batteries at all. My LiFePO4 batteries used to charge up beautifully, hitting 100% by late afternoon like clockwork.

Now? Total drama queens. This morning we woke up at 18% charge, and after a full day of glorious sunshine, we're sitting pretty at a whopping 63%. With 2150W of solar, I should be swimming in electrons! But instead my batteries are acting like teenagers - moody and refusing to cooperate.

I'm starting to suspect something's gone wrong, but honestly, I have no clue how to properly check LiFePO4 batteries. Are they actually broken, or am I just doing something monumentally stupid? What voltage readings should I be looking for, and what else should I check before I start panic-buying new batteries? …more

Fix Coleman-Mach Multi-Zone AC Control Box Problems

My 2003 Fleetwood Excursion came with a nasty surprise — the previous owner left the Coleman-Mach multi-zone AC control box completely destroyed. I replaced my old control box with a model 9430A751, but now I'm having serious issues with my original Coleman Mach ZC thermostat.

The new control box has SIG 1 and SIG 2 terminals, but my original only had a single SIG terminal. I've confirmed the heat pump and zone jumpers are set to zone 1 and no heat pump. My thermostat lights up on Zone 1 briefly, then switches to Zone 2 and becomes completely unresponsive. I'm only running a single-zone setup with one purple signal wire.

When I plug in the control box, I get three green LED 1 flashes. I'm getting increasingly concerned that this 9430A751 control box isn't compatible with my system at all. Should I stop trying to make this work before I cause more problems? Is there a fundamental difference between control boxes with dual SIG terminals versus single SIG terminals that I'm missing? …more

Suburban SF-42Q Furnace Shuts Off After 5-10 Minutes: Troubleshooting

Pulled into camp last night and there's this sharp clicking sound followed by dead silence when my Suburban SF-42Q furnace burner dies after 5-10 minutes. The system attempts to re-ignite several times before giving up and shutting down completely. Cycling power restarts the unit, but the same pattern repeats.

I've verified the sail switch operates correctly and the thermal limit switch shows continuity when cold. The unit starts immediately and heats effectively during those initial minutes before failure. What are the most likely causes for this specific shutdown pattern, and what diagnostic steps should I prioritize to identify whether this is an overheating issue, fuel delivery problem, or control board failure? …more

Suburban KT30 Furnace 521099 Circuit Board Upgrade: Complete Wiring Fixes & Spark Troubleshooting

The multimeter's charged and screwdrivers are laid out — ready to fix this Suburban KT30 Furnace 521099 circuit board myself, just need the proper wiring sequence. I upgraded my Suburban KT30 furnace with the new 521099 circuit board and 528039 adapter harness after the original board failed. The good news is I now have power to the gas valve through the brown wire - that part's working!

But here's what's driving me crazy: when the gas valve opens, I'm only getting ONE spark at the electrode instead of the continuous 5-7 seconds of sparking I should be getting. I've been digging through wiring diagrams and realized the old board had a dedicated wire for the flame sensor, but the new setup just has me grounding that old flame sensor wire.

I'm pretty sure this flame sensor wiring issue is what's causing the single spark problem instead of continuous ignition, but I can't figure out how to properly wire it with this new 521099 board. Has anyone successfully done this upgrade and gotten the flame sensor circuit working correctly? …more

How to Remove RV Thermostat for Micro Air EasyStart Installation - Step-by-Step Process

The 2ZC thermostat in my RV is staring at me right now and there's this Micro Air EasyStart manual saying it needs to come out first. I've got the Micro Air unit ready to go, but I'm not entirely sure about the proper procedure for removing the current 2ZC thermostat from the wall without damaging anything or losing track of the wiring configuration.

I want to make sure I handle this correctly since I know the wire connections are critical and I don't want to create problems when connecting the new system. What's the proper step-by-step process for safely removing a 2ZC thermostat, and are there any important precautions I should take regarding the wiring before I start the Micro Air installation? I'd appreciate detailed guidance on the removal process and any preparation steps that will make the new installation go smoothly. …more

How to Fix Magnum ME2012 Inverter 50 Amp Fault Code and Breaker Tripping Safely

Replaced the DC connections on my Monaco Cayman's Magnum ME2012 inverter per the manual, but I'm still getting 50 amp fault codes and breaker trips. The remote console is consistently showing a 50 amp reading, which I know isn't normal operation. When I watch the unit go through its self-test sequence, it connects initially but then flashes several times before failing completely. The fault light starts flashing on and off intermittently, and eventually the shore power breaker trips entirely.

What's really concerning is that my batteries aren't charging at all during this process. I've read through the manual and it mentions that the inverter might need a reset to clear fault conditions, but I'm not sure if that's the right approach here or if there's something more serious going on. The combination of the 50A fault display, failed self-test, and the shore power breaker tripping makes me think this could be a significant electrical problem.

What steps should I take to diagnose whether this is a simple reset issue or if my ME2012 inverter has a more serious internal problem that needs professional attention? …more

Complete RV Lithium Battery and Solar Setup Guide for Trolling Motors: Safe Installation Tips

Wondering if my 8-year-old lead acid trolling motor batteries that are barely holding a charge anymore are worth repairing or if I should upgrade to lithium? I need either a 24V or 36V lithium battery system, but I keep reading horror stories about people using the wrong chargers and damaging expensive lithium batteries.

I'm particularly worried about the charging setup - both for shore power charging at the marina and solar charging when I'm anchored out. I've heard you absolutely cannot use regular lead-acid chargers with lithium batteries, but I'm not sure what type of chargers I actually need. And for solar, someone mentioned something about MPPT controllers being required?

What specific type of chargers do I need for 24V and 36V lithium trolling motor batteries? I want to make sure I get the right equipment and don't fry a $1000+ battery pack. Are there particular lithium battery brands that are more reliable and safer than others? …more
Micro-Air 355 Thermostat Wiring Issues: Multi-Zone RV HVAC Troubleshooting Guide

Micro-Air 355 Thermostat Wiring Issues: Multi-Zone RV HVAC Troubleshooting Guide

Around the third day into our trip, my Micro-Air 355 thermostat has zones not responding, temperature readings jumping randomly, AND the whole system cycling on and off every few minutes all at once. I replaced my old RV Comfort.ZC thermostat with a Micro-Air 355 and nothing is working right. The old thermostat controlled both zones perfectly, but now I've got a complete mess.

My current wire connections include:
- Red 12v in *
- White 12v out *
- White B-
- Green SIG 1 *
- Brown SIG 2 *
- Red R+
- Blue B-
- Yellow R+ (not used on old thermostat)

Zone 1 cool doesn't work AT ALL, but the furnace works fine. Zone 2 is backwards - cool works but furnace won't kick on. Even worse, once I switch from zone 1 to zone 2, I can't get back to zone 1! I have to reset the whole thing.

I've got these extra yellow and orange wires that were showing voltage when zone 2 furnace should be running. My Coleman Mach units are fine - this has to be a wiring difference between the thermostats. I really thought this would be plug-and-play! Is there something specific about how the Micro-Air 355 handles SIG1 and SIG2 wires differently than the RV Comfort.ZC? I'm starting to think I need professional help with this multi-zone setup. …more

Dometic CCC2 Thermostat No Power: Troubleshooting & Fix Guide 2024

Opened up my new-to-me 1960 Safari RV only to find the Dometic AC unit's CCC2 thermostat has zero power and I'm completely lost. The AC unit is getting 120V power, but the thermostat displays zero power. My troubleshooting so far:
1) The inverter works great with 13.9V at the battery
2) The AC unit is receiving 120 power
3) The "telephone" line is also receiving power at both sending and receiving ends
4) The thermostat is registering zero power

I'm assuming this is a thermostat issue and not a fuse problem. What could be causing the CCC2 thermostat to have no power when everything else checks out? …more
