Michelin RV Tire Problems: Complete Guide & Solutions 2024

Standing in my driveway planning to tackle these serious handling issues with my new Michelin Agilis HD Z 245/70R19.5 tires on my 2018 Winnebago Vista LX 27N this Saturday — what should I check first? The RV now has 25k miles, and since switching from Goodyear tires, I'm experiencing terrible tail wag - especially when towing my 2024 Toyota Tacoma and in windy conditions.

I've tried multiple tire pressures (82 psi from door sticker, 110 psi from installer, up to 100 psi) but nothing resolves the side-to-side movement. I have several stability modifications installed (Rear Trac Bar, Aux Roadmaster Rear Swaybar, Front Roadmaster Swaybar, Koni FSD shocks), which previously helped with handling.

The movement feels like the towed truck is actually pushing the RV's rear side-to-side, making driving extremely uncomfortable. I'm within Michelin's 60-day/2500-mile buy-back period and want to understand why these tires are performing so differently from my previous set.

Could experienced RV owners help me diagnose what might be causing these handling problems? …more

Ford F53 Motorhome Ride Quality: Improve Your Harsh Ride with Shocks &

I walked into my first Class A motorhome ownership with zero experience and my 2022 Jayco Precept Prestige 36H on an F53 chassis rides like I'm driving over constant speed bumps. This 3-year-old coach with 15,000 miles beats us to death on every interstate joint and bridge transition - it's honestly brutal and making long trips miserable. I've already added Sumos on the front and Timbrens on the rear, which helped somewhat with roll/sway, but I'm still getting hammered by road imperfections while blueoxing my Honda CRV.

I keep hearing conflicting advice about gas shocks versus other options, proper tire pressures, and suspension upgrades. What actually works to smooth out these bone-jarring impacts? I need real solutions that will make a noticeable difference in ride comfort, not just minor tweaks. Has anyone successfully tamed an F53's harsh ride? …more
Ford E-450 RV Shock Absorber Upgrade Guide: Bilstein 4600 vs Koni FSD

Ford E-450 RV Shock Absorber Upgrade Guide: Bilstein 4600 vs Koni FSD

Before spending hundreds on new tires and suspension parts for my 2023 Ford E-450 Class C motorhome, the ride quality is still absolutely brutal. The RV is about 28 feet long and weighs approximately 14,500 pounds loaded. We use it primarily for family camping trips, but I also occasionally tow a small utility trailer with dirt bikes - probably 25% of our trips involve towing that extra 2,000-3,000 pounds.

I've been researching shock absorber upgrades and have narrowed it down to two main options that seem popular in the RV community: the Bilstein 4600 series and the Koni FSD (Frequency Selective Damping) shocks. I understand both are significant improvements over stock, but I'm trying to understand the practical differences between them for my specific setup and usage patterns.

What I really need to know is which option provides the best balance of ride comfort improvement, handling stability (especially when towing), and overall value for money on the E-450 chassis. I want to make sure I'm making the right choice since this is a fairly significant investment and I don't want to have buyer's remorse later. …more

Ford E-450 Front Suspension Quick Fix: Class C Motorhome Repair Guide for Winnebago Owners

Our Ford E-450's front suspension is making grinding noises when I turn - is this dangerous with kids in our Winnebago? My 2007 Winnebago Outlook 31' has been driving like absolute garbage and everyone keeps mentioning this "quick fix" for Ford E-450 chassis front suspension issues. I've been crawling under this thing for hours trying to figure out what I'm even looking at.

I keep hearing about track bars, radius arms, coil springs - but honestly, I can't tell which is which on my setup. The suspension doesn't look like the simple diagrams I've seen online. Can someone please break down exactly what components are involved in this quick fix for the E-450 chassis? I really need to know what I'm dealing with before I make this worse than it already is.

I'm willing to take photos and get help from other owners if needed, but first I need to understand what parts I should even be focusing on. This motorhome has been my home and I desperately need to get this sorted out! …more

F-53 Motorhome Leaf Springs: Complete Replacement Guide & Warning Signs to Watch

My F-53 motorhome still bounces like a trampoline over every bump despite replacing the shocks, checking alignment, and rebalancing the tires. I have a 1995 F-53 motorhome that's been in Arizona its whole life, so thankfully no rust issues.

I keep seeing posts about people replacing leaf springs on much newer rigs, and it's got me wondering if I should be doing the same. My coach is 30 years old now, but honestly I don't see any obvious sagging and the springs look okay to my untrained eye. I do have some worn bushings that I'm planning to replace.

What are the actual warning signs that leaf springs need to be completely replaced? Am I missing something obvious, or could my old Arizona springs actually still be fine? I don't want to spend money I don't need to, but I also don't want to ignore something important for safety. …more

How to Find Ford Dealers That Service RV Motorhome Chassis - Complete

Staring at my broken-down F53 motorhome with a list of Ford dealers, having no clue which ones actually know how to work on RV chassis. When I was in Knoxville, TN, I encountered several issues including an intermittent engine misfire, a missing front suspension bumper, and a completely missing rear sway bar mount.

I've been calling around to Ford dealerships and most either refuse or say they don't have anyone qualified to work on these chassis. The few places I found are booking months out, which makes me nervous about emergency repairs.

My experience with Paul Miller Ford in Lexington, KY was excellent. Mike, their motorhome advisor, got me in quickly. They diagnosed a burned plug wire, ordered parts, and had me back on the road in just a few days. The repairs were even covered under warranty.

Is there a better way to identify which Ford dealers are actually equipped and willing to service RV chassis? I want to make sure I find reputable places before I actually need them. …more
Koni Shocks vs Sway Bars for RV Body Roll: Which $1200 Upgrade Works Best?

Koni Shocks vs Sway Bars for RV Body Roll: Which $1200 Upgrade Works Best?

Standing in front of my 2022 Fleetwood Frontier 36ss after following every YouTube tutorial on fixing body roll, I somehow made the swaying and corner instability even worse. The difference is really noticeable compared to my previous RV, a 2016 Itasca 34H that had Bilstein shocks and handled much more smoothly with minimal body roll.

I'm considering investing about $1200 in Koni shocks as an upgrade, thinking they might solve this handling issue. However, I want to make sure I'm spending my money on the right solution. Will upgrading to Koni shocks actually reduce the body roll I'm experiencing, or should I be looking at other suspension modifications? I'd hate to spend that much money and not see a significant improvement in the handling characteristics that are bothering me most. …more

Coachman Euro F53 Chassis Upgrades: Air vs Incremental

Finally hit my budget limit after other RV repairs — is there a way to fix my Coachman Euro 28' F53 Godzilla handling issues for under $500? After 18+ years driving diesel pushers, this thing rides like a covered wagon and steers like a shopping cart at highway speeds. I've gotten quotes for a full air ride suspension conversion at $30K, but that's nearly 20% of the $160K I paid for this RV.

I'm seriously considering the incremental upgrade route instead - maybe $15K spread across Koni shocks, Sumo Springs, sway bars, SuperSteer components, and better tires. Everyone says you can make meaningful improvements this way, but I'm worried I'll still end up disappointed and out the money.

Has anyone actually made their F53 chassis livable with the incremental approach? Can I really get 80% of the benefit for half the cost, or am I just throwing good money after bad? I need this thing to be safe and comfortable for Florida highway driving, but I'm tired of dumping money into what feels like a lost cause. …more

How to Replace 1995 Ford F53 Rear Sway Bar Bushings - Complete RV Repair Guide

Staring at my 1995 Ford F53 motorhome's rear sway bar bushings that look perfectly fine, probably a dumb question but why does this thing sway like crazy over every bump? I can hear some clunking back there and the handling feels loose and wallowy.

I'm planning to tackle this myself (because apparently I enjoy spending my weekends cursing at rusty bolts). When replacing these axle bushings, be extremely careful with bolt alignment. The nuts are welded to the bracket, and if you don't align everything precisely, you risk cross-threading, which can turn a simple job into a much longer project - I learned this the hard way and had to chisel off a nut.

I've got some photos documenting my process and can share those if anyone's interested. I did not need to replace the upper sway bar tie rod bushings this time. Should I stick with the original rubber ones or is it worth upgrading to something better? And since I'll already be crawling around under there getting dirty, are there any other components I should check or replace while everything's accessible? …more

Jayco Precept Sway Bar Bracket Upgrade Guide: JRide Plus Worth It?

Wondering if anyone else has had their JRide Plus suspension work done right before a big trip because my 2020 Jayco Precept 31U feels completely different now. The shop is pushing me to upgrade to larger sway bar brackets, saying it'll help with stability and reduce stress on the mounting points.

Honestly not sure if this is actually needed or just another way to get more cash out of me. I mean, the JRide Plus already has beefier sway bars than stock, so are the brackets really the weak link here? Would love to know if this upgrade is actually worth doing or if I'm fine sticking with what I've got. …more

2021 Ford E-350 I-Beam Axle Pivot Bushing Wear at 36K Miles

Last week my wife casually mentioned our 2021 Ford E-350 makes creaking noises when turning and now I can't stop hearing those worn I-beam axle pivot bushings failing at just 36K miles. The passenger side tire was wearing really badly on the outside edge, and when I took it in, they found that both I-beam axle pivot bushings were worn out and needed replacement.

What's got me worried is that this happened at only 36,000 miles - that seems really early to me for bushings to fail? The RV is a 2021 model and I did have the rear raised 3/4 inch when I first bought it. Could that modification have caused this problem, or is this just normal wear for these Ford chassis? I'm trying to figure out if I should expect more issues like this or if this was just bad luck. …more

Best Shock Upgrades for 2024 Fleetwood Bounder 35K

I woke up determined to fix my 2024 Fleetwood Bounder 35K's ride quality — adjusted tire pressure, checked alignment, swapped sway bar links — but it still bounces like a trampoline. The thing rides like a covered wagon on the Oregon Trail - every bump feels like we're crossing the Continental Divide!

I keep hearing about Koni FSD and Bilstein shocks as upgrades, but I'm wondering if they're actually worth it or just RV snake oil. Are these brands really that much better than whatever factory shocks came on this beast? And more importantly, what kind of financial damage am I looking at to stop feeling like I'm in a paint mixer every time we hit the road? …more

1991 Ford E350 460 Engine Oil Pump Issues - Diagnosis Help

Somewhere between last month's slightly low oil pressure reading on my '91 Ford E350 460 engine and today's complete engine knocking, I'm thinking this oil pump is finally dying.

Here's the weird part - oil pressure gauge sits really low (like concerningly low) but the temp gauge never even hits the middle, stays cool as a cucumber. She runs like a total champ though, starts every time, smooth as butter, pulls hills no problem. Just hit 99k miles and put about 7k on her this year with zero issues performance-wise.

Everything I'm reading online says oil pump problems usually show up as low pressure AND high temps together. But I've got low pressure with low temps, which seems backwards? Had one moment recently where the oil pressure suddenly jumped to normal mid-range after smelling some hot oil at a gas stop. Is this actually pointing to oil pump failure, or am I maybe looking at faulty gauges or sending units instead? …more
