F53 Rear Pinion Seal Replacement: Complete Dana 17060 RV Axle Repair Guide

I replaced my Dana 17060 rear pinion seal myself after getting quoted $1,800 for my 2018 Allegro 32SA and saved a fortune. I've been researching this repair and I'm honestly getting overwhelmed by what I'm reading about the complexity.

The more I dig into this, the more concerned I'm getting about the specialized tools needed and the precision required. I'm specifically wondering about the 650 lb torque specification, finding a socket that fits the nut and can work with a 1-inch drive, and the best method for removing a potentially loctited nut.

Is this realistically a DIY job for someone with decent mechanical skills? I've already marked my components for driveline alignment, but I'm unsure about seal removal tools, whether to use heat for nut removal, and if I should use loctite when reinstalling.

Is this something I should attempt myself or just pay for professional work? How long does this type of repair typically take, and what am I really looking at in terms of complexity? …more

Ford Motorhome 4-Speed Automatic Transmission Guide: 4R70W vs E4OD vs

I noticed it's 2 AM and my Ford motorhome transmission just started making awful grinding noises — need to figure out if it's the 4R70W or E4OD before hitting the road tomorrow. I'm converting a half ton pickup into a motorhome and want 4x4 capability. I keep seeing references to different 4-speed automatic transmissions like the 4R70W, E4OD, and 4R100, but I'm honestly confused about which is which and what the differences are.

I'm trying to figure out which transmission would be most reliable for my needs. Some people mention the 4R70W while others swear by the E4OD or 4R100. Do these vary by year or engine size? And is there a clear winner in terms of dependability, especially for someone who might be doing some towing and converting a pickup?

Any guidance would be really appreciated - I feel like I'm drowning in transmission model numbers and don't want to make the wrong choice! …more

Class A Motorhome Wheel Balance Services in Columbus Ohio - Fix RV Steering Shimmy

Despite getting my tools ready and being determined to tackle this steering shimmy hitting my 1997 Class A motorhome at 55 mph — where should I start? Based on my troubleshooting, this appears to be a wheel balance issue, though I suspect there could also be tire wear patterns or front end component problems contributing to the vibration.

I need to locate commercial truck tire facilities in the Columbus, Ohio area that can properly handle motorhome wheel balancing services. Standard automotive shops don't have the equipment for larger RV wheels, so I'm specifically looking for commercial-grade tire service centers that can diagnose whether this is purely a balance issue or if there are additional front end problems requiring attention. …more

F53 Electromagnetic Retarder Installation: Costs, Alternatives & Better Options

Apparently engine braking saved me on my old Class A, but this 2016 Tiffin Allegro 36UA on the F53 chassis is absolutely terrifying on steep grades. Even in low gear, it seems to rev up and then upshift, and I end up gaining speed instead of slowing down. The engine braking just doesn't seem adequate.

I've been researching electromagnetic retarders as a possible solution, but I'm not sure if they can even be installed on an F53 or what they cost. Are there other options I should consider first? I'd really appreciate some guidance on whether this is the right direction to go or if there are better alternatives for managing steep descents safely. …more

F53 Differential Pinion Seal Leak: Complete Repair Guide for RV Owners

During my morning walkaround I'm trying to decide between tackling this F53 differential pinion seal leak myself or paying a shop $800+ for these oil puddles. Just discovered my 2021 F53 chassis is marking its territory under the rear diff, and I'm trying to figure out my next steps.

Should this kind of pinion seal failure be covered under warranty on a relatively new chassis? And what are the critical things I need to know about the repair process - I've heard horror stories about techs messing up the pinion preload and creating bigger problems. Also, how worried should I be about driving it to get it fixed? The oil level situation has me a bit paranoid about doing any damage. …more
1995 Ford F-53 Center Bearing Part Numbers: E9TZ4817C vs F1TZ4817B Compared

1995 Ford F-53 Center Bearing Part Numbers: E9TZ4817C vs F1TZ4817B Compared

Opened my 1995 Ford F-53 manual expecting clarity on the center bearing part number, but E9TZ4817C doesn't match what my dealer claims I need. The chassis has the two-piece driveline setup that requires the center support bearing.

I've done some research and found that there are apparently two different part numbers that could fit my application: E9TZ4817C and F1TZ4817B. Both seem to be listed for the 1995 F-53, but I can't figure out which one is correct for my specific chassis.

Does anyone know how to determine which of these two part numbers (E9TZ4817C vs F1TZ4817B) is the right one for a 1995 F-53 with 460 engine and 228" wheelbase? Is it based on production date, or are there other factors that determine which center bearing part number I need? …more
