Ford F53 460 EGR Valve Cleaning Guide - Fix Motorhome Stalling Issues Now

Despite probably being a dumb question, why does my 1997 Ford F53 with the 460ci keep being such a real pain lately? Keeps stalling out when I'm sitting at lights or just idling around. This happens every 400-600 miles like clockwork - runs great for a while, then boom, stalling starts up again.

I'm pretty sure it's the EGR valve getting all carboned up because I've seen this pattern before. The thing is, I'm getting tired of dealing with this over and over. Should I just clean the EGR valve again, or is there a better long-term fix? I've heard people talk about EGR deletes but not sure if that's the way to go with the ECU and all that. …more

How to Fix Onan Cummins HGJBB 2.8 Generator Carburetor Problems After

Called the landlord about the Onan Cummins HGJBB 2.8 generator in my rental RV and he just said "figure it out" when the carburetor started acting up after winter. Left our 2017 Winnebago Travato 59K with its Onan Cummins HGJBB 2.8 generator sitting for almost a year (oops), and now it's throwing a tantrum. It's running rougher than a shopping cart with a wonky wheel, and the moment I try to put any load on it - like actually using it for something useful - it just gives up and dies on me.

I removed the carburetor, and my friend helped me clean it in a sonic cleaner. Now I'm stuck because I'm not sure if the throttle and choke linkage are correctly positioned when I reinstalled it. I've confirmed fuel is getting to the carburetor, but it won't start. I took some pictures showing the wire connections and mounting, hoping someone can help me figure out the precise linkage setup.

I'm pretty sure I know what's wrong (thanks, old gas and my laziness with fuel stabilizer), but I'm wondering if anyone can confirm my suspicions about what happens to these carburetors when they sit with stale fuel. Is this the classic 'your carburetor is now a museum of varnish' situation? And if so, what's the real deal on getting it cleaned up and running again? …more

P068A Code Ford V10 RV: Complete ECM Power Relay Control Circuit Fix Guide

Check engine light came on with a P068A code on my Ford V10 motorhome. Scanned it at AutoZone and they said ECM power relay control circuit — but the engine runs fine and I have no drivability issues. Not sure if this is something I need to fix immediately or if it can wait. …more

RV Engine Stalling & Transmission Issues - Diagnosis Help

Replaced multiple parts but I'm still standing in the auto parts store aisle staring at diagnostic tools with no clue which one I actually need for my RV's stalling and transmission issues. When I'm cruising and let off the gas, sometimes the RPMs drop like a rock, other times they just hang there until I slow down more. That's weird enough, but here's the real kicker - every now and then the whole engine just dies on me when I'm rolling up to a stop sign or red light. Maybe happens twice in 600 miles or so, so it's not constant but definitely not normal either.

I'm wondering if these two issues are connected somehow? Like could whatever's causing the stalling also be messing with how the transmission acts when I let off the throttle? Really hoping someone has seen this combo before because I'm in Germany and finding RV-specific help is tough.

I'm looking for any insights from folks who might know what could cause this - hoping to get to the bottom of this before it becomes a bigger problem! …more

Onan Generator Won't Stay Running: Complete Repair vs Replace Guide 20

Three distinct sputtering sounds keep coming from my Onan generator that fires up perfectly but dies out after running for a while. Multiple service calls and repairs have been attempted, but the problems persist intermittently, making diagnosis challenging.

The repair costs are accumulating significantly, and I'm reaching a decision point regarding whether to continue troubleshooting or consider replacement options. What criteria should I use to determine when total repair investment justifies switching to a replacement unit? Are refurbished Onan generators a viable alternative, and what factors should guide this repair-versus-replace analysis for intermittent generator failures?

(Note: This is specifically about my RV's Onan generator, which I'm referring to as my 'Jenny'.) …more

2001 Ford F53 Firewall Module Identification: GEM, ICM & Fuel Pump Driver Guide

According to my spring ritual of firing up my 2001 Ford F53 for camping season, that same firewall electrical module overheats until the black plastic housing cracks. Looks pretty well cooked!

The part number isn't readable anymore thanks to the heat damage, and my local Ford parts counter is stumped. It's definitely some kind of power module since it has that chunky heat sink attached. Anyone know what the common firewall modules are on these F53s? I'm thinking it might be something like a GEM or ignition module, but honestly not sure what I'm looking at here. …more

1995 Ford F53 460 Engine: Identifying EGR and PCV Valves | RV Repair Guide

Around 30 years into owning my 1995 Ford F53 with the 460 7.5L engine, I'm completely lost trying to locate the EGR and PCV valves. There are two valves that I can't identify - I'm pretty sure they're related to emissions control based on where they're located, but I'm not certain.

I think one might be an EGR valve and the other could be a PCV valve, but honestly I'm not confident in my identification. Should these valves be making any noise during normal operation? I want to make sure everything is working properly, but as someone newer to this, I'd really appreciate some guidance on what these components actually are and how they should behave. …more

Ford V10 Fuel Pump Driver Module Location: Allegro Bus FPDM Replacement Guide

Between now and our cross-country departure next week, my 2006 Allegro Bus motorhome with the Ford V10 engine started having intermittent starting and stalling issues. After doing some research and talking to other RV owners, I've narrowed down the potential culprit to what appears to be a failing Fuel Pump Driver Module (FPDM). From what I understand, this is a pretty common failure point on these Ford V10 engines, especially in the motorhome applications.

The symptoms I'm experiencing include occasional hard starting, particularly when the engine is warm, and intermittent stalling while driving - sometimes the engine will just cut out for a second and then come back to life. I've checked the obvious things like fuel filters and basic electrical connections, but everything seems fine there. Multiple sources are pointing me toward the FPDM as the likely cause.

I'm ready to tackle this repair myself, but I need to know the exact location of this Fuel Pump Driver Module on the Allegro Bus chassis. I've heard it's a small black module with a single electrical connector, but I haven't been able to locate it yet. Can someone tell me specifically where Ford mounted this component on the 2006 Allegro Bus with the V10 engine? I want to inspect it first and possibly replace it if it shows signs of failure or corrosion. …more

RV V10 Engine Dies During Sharp Turns: Troubleshooting Guide

Found myself trying to decide between a fuel pickup issue and electrical problem for my Triton V10 that keeps dying during sharp turns into parking spots and tight corners. The engine drops to approximately 500 RPM before completely shutting down, though it restarts immediately without codes. This occurs on a 2006 F53 chassis with 43,000 miles.

The stalling pattern is consistent with power loss during low-speed turning situations, creating safety concerns due to loss of power-assisted braking and steering. Engine performance is otherwise normal during straight-line driving and highway operation. Need systematic troubleshooting methodology to identify root cause - what are the primary diagnostic steps for V10 stalling specifically during turn scenarios? …more

1995 Ford F53 460 Engine Stalling: How to Replace Ignition Control Module for RV Reliability

Woke up this morning hoping my 1995 F53 motorhome with the 460 7.5L would run smooth after replacing the ignition control module yesterday, but it's still stalling randomly. It keeps stalling every time I come to a stop - literally dies on me at around 5mph just as I'm braking. The power steering goes out and it's a real struggle to get stopped safely.

I can restart it immediately and it runs fine as long as I keep giving it gas, but this happens at EVERY stop sign and red light. Currently, it won't start at all - just cranks with no spark. I previously had an EGR code 334 that went away after replacing the EVR sensor.

My fuel pressure gauge was showing 30-32 psi at idle and about 40 psi at wide open throttle. When I tested the vacuum line on the fuel pressure regulator, no fuel spilled out and the pressure didn't change.

I've already replaced many parts (including distributor cap, plugs, wires, EGR valve, ICM, fuel pressure regulator) with only 2,000 miles on them. I discovered that swapping the ignition control module seems to temporarily fix the issue - it starts with a new ICM but dies when I return to the original one.

I'm really concerned about potential highway driving with these intermittent starting problems. Is this a common issue with these 460 engines? …more
