How to Fix RV Slideout Rubbing Against Exterior Wall - Complete Repair Guide

Finally figured out why my neighbor's slideout glides like butter while mine scrapes horribly against the exterior wall every time — what's their secret? My slideout has started rubbing against the exterior bathroom wall, and the coach is perfectly level.

The main thing I've noticed is that the gap at the bottom of the slide is much smaller now compared to the top - it used to be about 1½-2 inches at the bottom, but now it's barely anything. There's also about a ½ inch difference in height from one end of the slide to the other when I measure from the top.

I've independently jacked up both sides of the slide more than an inch each and checked the gap, but neither showed a difference. When I crawled underneath, I couldn't see where the slide might have moved laterally closer to the wall. The exterior stripes still line up. I also noticed the shower hasn't been used in 6 years or longer (I bought this coach used).

I'm wondering if this could be some kind of drooping issue? I've heard about things like rollers wearing out, but I honestly don't know what to look for or where to start troubleshooting. Should I be checking underneath the RV? Any advice on what might be causing this rubbing and smaller gap would be hugely appreciated! …more

RV Hydraulic Leveling Jack Leaks: Normal Seepage vs Serious Problems Explained

Somewhere between parking and leveling my 2019 Forest River Georgetown, I noticed the hydraulic leveling jacks have small amounts of fluid on the fittings. No puddles underneath and the jacks aren't sagging when stored or in use. Just a light coating on the hoses and one fitting has a small amount of fluid visible.

Is this normal seepage or something I should worry about? What's the difference between normal weeping and a real problem that needs immediate attention? …more

Carefree HD Awning Stabilizer Review: Box Awning Install

Between the wind gusts hitting camp right now, I can see my box awning doing this wild flapping dance that's making me nervous. The Carefree HD Awning Stabilizer appears to be designed specifically for this application, but I need technical assessment of its actual performance characteristics.

Primary concerns are bounce reduction effectiveness, compatibility across different box awning manufacturers, and installation complexity for self-service repair. Wind stability is the critical performance metric - current setup shows significant sway at wind speeds above 10-15 mph.

Looking for factual analysis of this stabilizer's capabilities on box awning configurations, particularly regarding installation requirements and real-world wind resistance improvements. …more

Coleman Mach AC Leaking Water Inside RV: Complete Troubleshooting Guide to Stop Drips

I'm planning my weekend getaway when I spotted water dripping from my Coleman Mach air conditioner model 49003A879 that definitely wasn't there yesterday. I'm in Myrtle Beach, with super humid conditions (90s with crazy humidity) and getting pea-sized water drops falling from the ceiling vents at maybe 2 drops per minute, which doesn't sound like much but it's making puddles on my floor.

I've been keeping the main ceiling vents mostly closed to push more air to the back of the coach. Climbed up on the roof expecting to find some fancy drain pump or tubing system, but honestly don't see much of anything obvious.

Is this just how these Coleman units work, or am I missing something? Really hoping this isn't a 'deal with it' situation, but wondering if my closed vents are screwing up the airflow or if there's actually a drainage problem I need to fix. …more

F53 Chassis Leaf Spring Problems: Signs of Failure and Replacement Guide

Got a 2001 F53 chassis with leaf springs making weird noises and the RV feels unstable—is this dangerous with my grandkids riding along? Specifically for my RV, I want to know what to look for during inspection of the passenger side front spring. I'm considering replacing the stock springs (2750# rating) with new springs rated at 3750#, as my front axle weight when loaded is 6000#. Are there particular areas I should focus on when checking the springs? Also need to understand how urgent replacement is if I find problems. …more

F-53 Motorhome Leaf Springs: Complete Replacement Guide & Warning Signs to Watch

My F-53 motorhome still bounces like a trampoline over every bump despite replacing the shocks, checking alignment, and rebalancing the tires. I have a 1995 F-53 motorhome that's been in Arizona its whole life, so thankfully no rust issues.

I keep seeing posts about people replacing leaf springs on much newer rigs, and it's got me wondering if I should be doing the same. My coach is 30 years old now, but honestly I don't see any obvious sagging and the springs look okay to my untrained eye. I do have some worn bushings that I'm planning to replace.

What are the actual warning signs that leaf springs need to be completely replaced? Am I missing something obvious, or could my old Arizona springs actually still be fine? I don't want to spend money I don't need to, but I also don't want to ignore something important for safety. …more

How to Identify Mystery RV Parts Found Under Your Sofa - Complete Guide

Somewhere under my RV sofa at 11 PM I found these mystery heavy-duty metal brackets — need to identify them before tomorrow's trip. They look substantial and professionally made, not like random hardware.

I'm concerned these might be critical safety components that should be installed somewhere - maybe for the slides, stabilizing jacks, or furniture mounting? The last thing I want is for something to fail while we're traveling because I left essential parts sitting in storage. Should I be worried about using the RV until I figure out what these are for and get them properly installed? …more

How to Fix RV Sofa Bed Frame: Quick Plywood Repair & Replacement Guide for Sagging Support

Apparently my 2006 motorhome's hide-a-bed frame started sagging completely to the floor yesterday and now it won't even support a pillow without collapsing. Our 2006 motorhome came with this lovely feature where the hide-a-bed frame has given up on life and decided gravity is its new best friend.

We already invested in a new firm mattress (because apparently throwing money at half the problem seemed logical), but the worn-out frame underneath still creates this romantic "let's all sleep in the middle together" situation. The support system is shot, and getting this whole sofa out for a complete overhaul sounds about as fun as changing a tire in the rain.

Anyone found a quick and dirty fix to stop this sagging madness? I'm hoping there's some clever solution that doesn't involve taking apart half the RV or my entire savings account. What's worked for you when your sofa bed decided to become a hammock? …more

1995 Ford F-53 Chassis Rear Suspension Sagging: Leaf Spring Repair Guide

Since my 1995 Ford F-53 motorhome chassis started sagging badly in the rear, is this dangerous with grandkids riding along? The rear end has been gradually sagging lower and lower, and I'm seeking help with two specific needs.

First, I'm searching for a detailed service manual. I've already checked with a Ford dealership who recommended helminc.com, but they don't have the manual. I'm specifically looking for manual code FCS-12214-95 or something similar. I've also searched eBay without success.

Regarding the suspension, the rear is sitting very low. I'm looking for a budget-friendly temporary fix to raise the suspension. I suspect the rear springs might need work, and I'm wondering if additional airbags could help. My primary goal is an affordable interim solution that can prevent potential damage from low clearance.

I'm hoping someone with experience with F-53 chassis motorhomes from this era can provide guidance on both finding the service manual and addressing the suspension sag. What temporary solutions have worked for others in a similar situation? …more

Hydraulic RV Jack Drift: How Much Sag is Normal?

Apparently my hydraulic leveling jack has a mind of its own — it keeps slowly drifting downward when it's supposed to stay in the retracted position. All four jacks also have a thin coating of hydraulic fluid on them, which has me a bit concerned. I went ahead and extended the leveling system today to take some careful measurements of each jack's extension and the distance from each corner to the ground. I'm wondering what amount of drift or sag should be considered normal versus something that needs immediate attention under warranty? …more

Class A Sleeper Sofa Replacement Guide - Safe Installation

Staring at my Class A's sleeper sofa that started sagging dangerously in the middle last month and now has a completely cracked frame underneath. The RV currently has two separate recliners in the living area, but we'd really like to replace them with a sleeper sofa since we'll need the extra sleeping space. I'm concerned about finding something that's both safe for travel and comfortable enough for our aging backs - we might end up sleeping on it ourselves some nights. What should we look for in terms of mounting systems and comfort features? I want to make sure whatever we install won't become a projectile if we have to brake hard with the family aboard. …more
