5 Star Tuner X4 for Ford V10 RV: Complete Performance & Upgrade Guide

Planning to tune my 2018 Ford 6.8L V10 RV but got quoted $800 for professional tuning and wondering if the 5 Star X4 is DIY-friendly. Specifically want to know about real-world performance improvements - does it actually improve throttle response and shift points? What about fuel economy gains?

Which of the 3 programs works best for RV towing? Is the investment worth it for better drivability or just hype? …more

How to Install a Tachometer on Ford E-450 RV Chassis - Complete DIY Guide

Woke up to my 2003 Itasca Spirit with Ford E-450 V10 chassis doing something bizarre — engine purrs like a kitten but zero RPM showing on dashboard. The dash doesn't have a factory tachometer, but I'd really like to monitor RPMs when towing and climbing hills.

What are the best aftermarket tachometer options for this setup? Looking for specific mounting solutions and wiring connections that work with the E-450's electrical system. …more

Ford F53 Speedometer Stuck at 60 km/h: RV Dashboard Repair Guide

Despite having electrical work done on my 1999 Ford F53 motorhome, the speedometer has been permanently stuck at 60 km/h regardless of actual driving speed. The gauge reads accurately up to 60 km/h but then just stays pegged there no matter how fast I'm actually going. I'm worried this could be dangerous since I can't tell my real speed on highways.

What's strange is that my odometer keeps working perfectly and even my cruise control still functions normally. I'm hesitant to start tearing into the dashboard without knowing what I'm dealing with. Could this be the speed sensor failing, or is it something else? I really need to understand what's causing this before I risk damaging other components. …more

Ford RV Speedometer Stuck at 39 MPH: Quick Stepper Motor Fix Guide

During last month's road trips my Ford RV speedometer would occasionally stick at 39 MPH, but now it's completely frozen there regardless of actual speed. My 2003 Hurricane's speedometer seems to be stuck - it won't read above 39 mph no matter how fast I'm actually going. I've been relying on my GPS to know my real speed, which is working fine.

The weird thing is that my cruise control still functions normally and the odometer keeps tracking miles correctly. I'm just not sure what could cause the speedometer to max out like this while everything else works. Is this something that happens often with these Ford-based motorhomes? I'm hoping it's not going to be some crazy expensive fix since I'm still learning about RV maintenance costs. …more
Cummins ISM 500HP at 142K Miles: High Mileage or Just Getting Started?

Cummins ISM 500HP at 142K Miles: High Mileage or Just Getting Started?

Planning to buy my first diesel pusher and I'm completely clueless whether 142,187 miles on this 2005 Cummins ISM 500HP is considered high mileage. The coach is equipped with a Cummins ISM 500 horsepower engine paired with an Allison MH 4000 6-speed transmission. While I've done some research on these powertrains, I'm getting mixed opinions about what constitutes "high mileage" for this particular combination.

Some people are telling me that anything over 100K miles is getting into risky territory, while others say these commercial-grade engines are just getting broken in at that point. I want to make sure I'm not walking into a money pit, but I also don't want to pass up a good coach if the mileage number is scaring me unnecessarily.

What's the realistic lifespan expectation for the Cummins ISM 500HP and Allison MH4000 combination? Should 142K miles be a red flag that makes me walk away, or is this actually considered moderate mileage for these heavy-duty components? I'm trying to determine if I should focus more on the maintenance history and overall condition rather than getting hung up on the odometer reading. …more

Open Roads EFS Fuel Card Loves App Not Working - Quick Fix Guide

This is driving me crazy — my neighbor's Open Roads EFS fuel card works flawlessly in the Loves app but mine throws "Entry Mode not allowed" errors every time. I'm afraid I might be doing something wrong or that my card is damaged somehow.

The physical card still swipes fine at the pump dispenser, but I'm concerned about whether I should keep attempting to use the app or if that might cause problems with my account. Has anyone else experienced this issue? I don't want to mess anything up further, but I also don't understand why the app suddenly stopped working when it used to be fine. …more

Ford F53 Walker 21470 Muffler Upgrade: RV Chassis Performance Guide

Staring at my 2003 Ford F53 motorhome chassis with terrible exhaust drone, poor acceleration up hills, AND that annoying factory muffler rattle all happening together. I'm worried about making things worse or causing damage - this RV is my home and I can't afford major problems.

Will this muffler actually provide any real performance benefits, or am I just asking for trouble? I'm especially concerned about the installation process - I've read it might need welding and exhaust modifications. Should I be worried about safety issues or voiding warranties? The chassis only has 30k miles and runs fine now, so part of me thinks I should just leave it alone. …more

Dana Super 70 Pinion Seal Leaking: When to Worry About RV Differential Seepage

Pulled into camp yesterday and spotted fresh oil weeping around my Dana Super 70 pinion seal - now I'm wondering if this needs immediate attention. Not full-on crying tears of gear oil onto my driveway (thankfully), but definitely looking a bit moist around the edges. Been like this for years now - my RV's apparently got commitment issues with keeping things bone dry.

The plot thickens: even the weld spots where the axle tube meets the diff are joining the sweating party. At 24k miles, I'm wondering if this is just my Dana Super 70 being a drama queen, or if I should be genuinely concerned? No actual drips after sitting all winter in storage, but my OCD brain keeps telling me to grab a flashlight and inspect it daily. Should I be panicking or just accept that my differential has trust issues with seals? …more

RV Odometer Wrong Mileage: Fixes for 2013 Tiffin Allegro

Tried replacing the speedometer head, checking all connections, and even getting the ECM scanned — but my 2013 Tiffin Allegro's odometer is still showing completely wrong mileage. My 2013 Tiffin Allegro's odometer has started displaying completely wrong readings. It should show around 96,000 miles, but it's jumping to 181,000, then 302,000, and even over a million miles when I try resetting it. The speedometer works fine though.

A repair shop quoted me $900 for parts plus $300 labor to replace the whole speedometer/display unit. That seems really expensive for my budget. I'm wondering if this is something I need to fix right away or if I can live with it? My main concern is what happens if I want to sell the RV later - will the wrong odometer reading be a major problem for resale? …more
