Spent three hours testing my 2014 Hurricane's Onan 5500 gen getting 11.8 volts output when every manual says it should be 12+ volts! Here's the weird part - when I disconnect the remote harness, the generator fires right up and purrs like a kitten. But the second I plug that remote connection back in, boom - both the remote start light AND the generator start light come on, and then... nothing. Won't start at all.

The really bizarre symptom is this chattering from the fuel pump when the remote is connected. I can literally feel the fuel line jumping around when I put my hand on it. It's like the pump is having some kind of seizure or something!

I'm guessing this has to be some kind of electrical issue between the control board and the remote system, but I've never seen anything quite like this before. Anyone dealt with this specific combo of symptoms on an Onan 5500? Really hoping there's a known fix because pulling this thing out of the RV again would be a major pain! …more

Ford V10 surges between 600 and 1200 RPM at idle and gets worse when the engine is warm. Already replaced the IAC valve and cleaned the throttle body with no improvement. Drives fine on the highway but sitting at a stoplight feels like the engine is about to stall. …more

Tried everything to find more water damage in my 2002 Born Free after fixing a roof leak that only shows up when it's above 85 degrees outside. Applied Kool Seal and everything looks dry on the surface. But I'm worried about hidden water damage I can't see.

What should I check for to make sure water didn't get into walls, insulation, or other areas? The hurricane rain was coming sideways so water might have gotten in places other than just the roof. …more

During last month's road trips my Ford RV speedometer would occasionally stick at 39 MPH, but now it's completely frozen there regardless of actual speed. My 2003 Hurricane's speedometer seems to be stuck - it won't read above 39 mph no matter how fast I'm actually going. I've been relying on my GPS to know my real speed, which is working fine.

The weird thing is that my cruise control still functions normally and the odometer keeps tracking miles correctly. I'm just not sure what could cause the speedometer to max out like this while everything else works. Is this something that happens often with these Ford-based motorhomes? Around $3,200 to replace both front windshields on my 2005 Fourwinds Hurricane after they popped out and cracked, wondering if this is even worth fixing. During my search for a 2012 Fleetwood Bounder 35H and Thor Hurricane 35C with V10 engines, my existing UPFORD tune has become a confusing mess. My current Class C has an UPFORD Ultra tune that I installed about five years ago, and I've been extremely satisfied with the performance improvements - better gear holding, reduced downshifting from 5th to 4th to 3rd, lower RPMs, and significantly less engine noise.

UPFORD offers a transfer service where I can move my existing tune to the new motorhome for a fee, but I'm wondering if I should consider switching to a different tuning company instead. The main alternatives I'm looking at are Banks Power and 5 Star Tuning, since these seem to be the three most popular V10 performance tune options for RV applications.

From a cost-effectiveness standpoint, would it make more sense to transfer my current UPFORD tune to the new Class A, or are there compelling reasons to start fresh with Banks or 5 Star? Three times this week my RV ignition has done something bizarre — the key slides in perfectly but refuses to turn at all, like it's completely seized. I've been working on replacing the ignition lock cylinder in my 2003 Hurricane RV after losing my keys, and I think I've made things worse. When I drilled out the old cylinder and pulled it out, some kind of gear mechanism came with it and now I can't get everything aligned properly.

The frustrating part is that I can turn the key and all the dashboard lights come on, but when I try to actually crank the engine, absolutely nothing happens. I've tried realigning the gear multiple times but I'm obviously missing something important. I'm wondering if I need to remove the steering column covers to get better access, or if this is complicated enough that I should just bite the bullet and call a locksmith.

Has anyone dealt with this type of ignition lock cylinder gear failure before? I really need to get this RV running again and I'm hoping there's a straightforward way to replace the whole lock cylinder assembly properly. …more
