RV Electrical Problems: 12V & 120V Troubleshooting Guide 2024

Around $500 in parts later — replaced the main breaker, cleaned all connections, checked the transfer switch — my 2007 Holiday Rambler Admiral SE still won't recognize shore power.

I'm pretty sure 110V is making it to the rig since I can measure it, but somewhere between the plug and my appliances, something's not happy. Energy management panel is dark too. What's the logical troubleshooting order here? I keep hearing about transfer switches and breaker panels but honestly don't know where to start without making things worse! …more

Best Mobile RV Repair Apps and Services: Complete Guide 2024

Since my RV broke down I'm standing in the app store staring at dozens of mobile repair services with no clue which one actually works. This made me realize how valuable a comprehensive resource for mobile RV repair services would be.

Are there apps, websites, or forums that maintain an up-to-date list of mobile RV repair, tire repair, and towing services across the country? I'm interested in hearing about recommendations from experienced RV owners who have used these services and can vouch for their reliability and responsiveness.

What strategies do other RV travelers use to find quick, trustworthy mobile repair services when they're stuck in an unfamiliar area? …more

How to Find Discontinued Generac 75D Coolant Hose C4845 for 2003 Newmar Dutch Star RV

Generac generator in my 2003 Dutch Star needs a specific coolant hose — part number C4845 — and it's been discontinued everywhere I look. Called six RV parts suppliers and checked every online dealer. Need to find a compatible replacement before this thing overheats on our summer trip. …more

How to Replace Atwood Levelegs Control System with GAMA Electronics RF340-4PR Controller

Noticed my Tiffin Allegro Bay's Atwood Levelegs control pad has a completely blank display, won't respond to any commands, AND all the leveling jacks are totally dead. I'm looking at expensive repair options - around $400 for repair service or $3000+ for a complete Bigfoot replacement system.

I researched alternatives and found the GAMA Electronics RF340-4PR-ASL controller with HP4PR-ASL handheld pendant, which cost around $235 shipped. I customized the solution by 3D printing a switch panel with 4 DPST on/off switches and a momentary DPDT switch for jack control.

Is this type of aftermarket replacement reliable and compatible with existing Atwood jacks and wiring? I want something I can easily troubleshoot and maintain. …more

F53 Motorhome Wheel Alignment Florida: Where to Find Heavy-Duty Service Experts

Standing here looking at my F53 motorhome for the third time this year needing wheel alignment and I'm absolutely done with tire shops saying they can't handle it. I recently had six new tires and Retrobands installed at NIRVC in Georgia, along with some suspension upgrades, and now I'm in the Gainesville, Florida area for the winter. My 12'-8" tall Class A seems to be too heavy for standard alignment equipment.

I'm trying to figure out what type of shops actually have the heavy-duty equipment needed for F53 chassis alignment. Are there specific places I should be looking for, or am I gonna have to drive all over creation to find someone who can do this? Any tips on what to ask when I call around so I don't waste time showing up somewhere that can't help me? …more

How to Stop RV Windshield Condensation: Complete Prevention Guide

How to Stop RV Windshield Condensation: Complete Prevention Guide

Between running my AC constantly or relying on fans and ventilation to stop windshield condensation in my 31-foot Class A during Naples' brutal 89% humidity. Experiencing persistent exterior windshield condensation at 5:15 AM, while side windows and rear bedroom window remain clear. Recently modified ventilation by closing all four interior AC roof vents to test temperature regulation effects.

Condensation appears as moderate moisture accumulation on windshield exterior surface, with minimal condensation on some side windows. This occurs during typical Florida morning conditions with significant temperature differential between nighttime glass surface and ambient air humidity levels.

Require systematic approach to eliminate both interior and exterior condensation formation. What are the most effective methods to prevent windshield fogging through humidity control, ventilation management, and thermal barriers? Need technical solutions that address root causes rather than temporary fixes. …more

How to Travel with a Winterized RV: Complete Cold Weather Guide

I noticed my travel trailer isn't winterized for my Connecticut to Florida Keys trip in February — can't afford professional service right now, need DIY solutions under $200? I'll be stopping at my brother's place in New Jersey first, and then caravaning to our first stop in Fredericksburg, VA at a KOA with a full bathhouse.

I've winterized my travel trailer for the cold months up here, and I recently heard a podcast about travelers staying winterized and using RV antifreeze for quick bathroom needs during the trip. I'm wondering if anyone has experience with this approach.

I know I could de-winterize before leaving, but I'm worried about pipes freezing during the drive south since we'll be going through some cold states. On the other hand, traveling winterized means no water systems working during the trip. What's the smartest way to handle this? Should I keep it winterized for the whole drive and deal with no water, or is there a better strategy I'm missing? …more

5 Best RV Sewer Hose Replacements for Presto-Fit Users (2024 Guide)

Noticed my Presto-Fit sewer hose replacement keeps disconnecting at the worst possible moments even though I installed it last week. After 20 blissful years with my trusty Presto-Fit sewer hose, it finally gave up the ghost. Of course, now that I need a replacement, they're nowhere to be found. It's like losing your favorite pair of underwear – you never realize how good you had it until it's gone!

I keep seeing names like Camco RhinoFLEX, Valterra Dominator, and Lippert Waste Master thrown around, but honestly, I'm drowning in options and contradictory reviews. Some people swear by thick-wall hoses, others talk about cam-lock vs bayonet fittings, and don't even get me started on the cold-weather flexibility debate.

What are the real top alternatives for us displaced Presto-Fit refugees? I need something reliable that won't leave me literally knee-deep in regret during my next dump station adventure! …more

Coachman Euro F53 Chassis Upgrades: Air vs Incremental

Finally hit my budget limit after other RV repairs — is there a way to fix my Coachman Euro 28' F53 Godzilla handling issues for under $500? After 18+ years driving diesel pushers, this thing rides like a covered wagon and steers like a shopping cart at highway speeds. I've gotten quotes for a full air ride suspension conversion at $30K, but that's nearly 20% of the $160K I paid for this RV.

I'm seriously considering the incremental upgrade route instead - maybe $15K spread across Koni shocks, Sumo Springs, sway bars, SuperSteer components, and better tires. Everyone says you can make meaningful improvements this way, but I'm worried I'll still end up disappointed and out the money.

Has anyone actually made their F53 chassis livable with the incremental approach? Can I really get 80% of the benefit for half the cost, or am I just throwing good money after bad? I need this thing to be safe and comfortable for Florida highway driving, but I'm tired of dumping money into what feels like a lost cause. …more
Should I Sell My Atwood Level Legs Parts or Trade to BigFoot?

Should I Sell My Atwood Level Legs Parts or Trade to BigFoot?

During our budget planning for the BigFoot upgrade, my wife casually asked why we're dropping $8k when our Atwood level legs could probably fetch decent trade-in value. My '06 Pace Arrow 38L has Atwood Level Legs that keep failing despite previous repairs, so I'm planning to upgrade to BigFoot Levelers for about $8k.

The BigFoot installer said he'd take my old Atwood system but wouldn't give me any credit - he'd just fix them up and sell the parts himself. He offered to give them back to me instead, but actually discouraged me from trying to sell them myself. This has me worried - is he trying to lowball me, or is selling RV leveling parts really that difficult and risky?

I'm concerned I might make a costly mistake either way. Are Atwood parts actually valuable enough that I should keep them and deal with selling myself, even though I don't know much about these systems? Or should I just let BigFoot take them to avoid the hassle and potential headaches? …more

Ford V10 RV No Crank Intermittent Starting Issue Solutions

Opened the hood expecting to find the same starter solenoid issue that plagued my old gas motorhome — but my 2020 Fleetwood Bounder 33C with the Ford V10 keeps doing it. For the past few months, I've been dealing with this really frustrating intermittent starting problem where I turn the key and get dash lights but absolutely no cranking from the starter.

The weird thing is it's not consistent - sometimes it starts right up, other times I'll sit there for 20-30 minutes trying and then suddenly it'll fire right up like nothing was wrong. I've already replaced the ignition switch and even the starter/solenoid thinking that would fix it, but I'm still having the same issue. Battery tests good at 13.4 volts and it doesn't matter if I'm plugged into shore power or running the generator.

I'm kind of at a loss here and don't want to keep throwing parts at it. Could this be something with heat affecting an electrical component since it seems to work after sitting for a while? What should I be looking at next? …more

Ford V10 P0171 Code: Is It Safe to Drive Your RV? Lean System Diagnosis & Repair Guide

Finally dealing with my Ford V10 throwing the P0171 lean code for the third time this season and I'm absolutely done with these guessing games. My Ford V10 with 60,500 miles threw this code during our recent trip from Maine to Virginia, and while there are absolutely no drivability issues - no rough idle, stalling, or poor performance - I'm terrified something catastrophic could happen on the road.

I've already cleaned the MAF sensor and had a local mechanic check for vacuum leaks and run a detailed diagnostic, which found no performance issues and cleared the Check Engine Light. The engine runs perfectly fine, but that check engine light has me spooked. What if I'm damaging the engine by driving it? Should I be monitoring for specific symptoms? I keep reading horror stories online about lean conditions causing engine failure.

I really don't want to get stranded somewhere or cause expensive damage, but I also don't want to cancel our upcoming trip to Florida if it's actually safe to drive. Has anyone dealt with this specific code on a Ford V10? What should I be watching for, and is it actually dangerous to drive with P0171 when the engine seems to be running normally? …more

Tiffin V10 Transmission Temperature Guide: Normal Ranges & Overheating Prevention

Turned a mountain corner with my grandkids aboard and noticed my 2012 Tiffin 34 TGA's V10 TorqShift transmission running dangerously hot—should I be worried? After completing a 5,000-mile trip from Wyoming to Florida and hitting 100,000 miles on the odometer, I've noticed some unusual transmission temperature behavior.

With my ScanGauge, I've typically seen my transmission run around 175°F, but on this recent trip, it started fluctuating between 175°F and 190°F in a way it never has before. During idle stops, it would drop as low as 145°F. Despite these temperature variations, the transmission shifted perfectly normally.

I want to make sure I understand what's normal versus what should concern me. Are these temperature fluctuations something to be worried about, or are they within expected operating ranges? The RV performed well otherwise, and all systems seemed normal. …more
