F53 V10 Water Ingestion Fix When Ford Parts Discontinued

Our '99 F53 chassis with the V10 engine hasn't run right ever since we got caught in that torrential downpour last month and now we're dealing with water ingestion issues. I've experienced hydro-lock issues in severe downpours, and I know Ford issued Technical Service Bulletin 04-24-22 specifically addressing this air intake design flaw on the '99 to '04 F53 models. The TSB called for replacing the air intake horn and modifying the intake strap to prevent water from being sucked into the engine during heavy rain conditions.

The problem is that when I contacted my Ford dealer, they told me the critical air intake horn part specified in TSB 04-24-22 has been discontinued and is no longer available. The modified strap is still available, but without the new intake horn design, I'm still vulnerable to water ingestion during storms. With extensive travel plans ahead where I'll likely encounter severe weather, I need a reliable solution to protect my engine from hydro-lock.

What are my options for addressing the F53 V10 water ingestion problem when the original Ford TSB parts are no longer available? Are there aftermarket solutions or modifications that other F53 owners have successfully implemented to solve this issue? …more

How to Center Your RV Steering Wheel After Wheel Alignment

Replaced the wheel alignment on my 2018 Class A motorhome and now the steering wheel is sitting crooked — should I fix it myself or go back? I have an RV with an F53 chassis, and after getting an alignment, my steering wheel sits crooked when I'm driving straight - it's off by what looks like 30-45 degrees to the right. The RV tracks straight down the road just fine, but having to hold the wheel at an angle is driving me absolutely crazy on long trips.

I know this chassis uses an older steering system similar to what was used in the 1920s, and from what I understand, the drag link isn't adjustable. I've already installed a big steering stabilizer, but I'm concerned about how this offset might affect the steering box's performance. The steering shop seems busy, and I'm worried they'll just brush me off or charge me again. Is there a good way to center the steering wheel without major mechanical intervention? I really need to get this sorted out before our next big trip - any advice would be hugely appreciated! …more

RV Air Horn Compressor Keeps Blowing Fuses: Complete Troubleshooting Guide

Got three YouTube tutorials under my belt trying to fix my gas motorhome's air horn compressor fuse problem since May, but now it's blowing fuses even faster. System functioned properly through summer operation. Recently discovered air horns non-functional with blown 25-amp inline fuse. Replaced fuse and attempted system energization - fuse blows immediately upon key activation.

Conducted continuity testing between compressor motor leads (red/black wires) using digital multimeter. Results show full continuity, indicating potential short circuit condition. Testing reveals continuity between power lead and air tank connection points as well. The two connectors at the top of the air tank also show continuity.

Based on immediate fuse failure and continuity readings across motor windings, suspect either seized compressor motor or internal wiring short. What diagnostic steps should I follow to isolate whether this is a motor failure requiring compressor replacement versus other system components? I've already sent an inquiry to the manufacturer a week ago with no response. …more

Texas Class B Test with Unregistered 2011 Thomas School Bus

Halfway through prepping for my Texas Class B road test tomorrow, my neighbor insists my unregistered 2011 Thomas Built school bus is fine, the DMV demands current registration, but online converters claim they passed with expired tags.

I really want to use my bus for the test since I know it well and it's got air brakes - definitely want that endorsement! The bus is fully insured and I've got the commercial one-way permit it was driven here on, but I can't get anyone at DPS on the phone to confirm if they'll even let me take the test. Anyone know if Texas DPS will accept a vehicle that's not properly registered yet, or am I setting myself up for a headache? …more

Ford F53 Motorhome Cruise Control Not Working - Contact Ring Repair Guide

I replaced the cruise control contact ring on my 2000 Itasca's F53 chassis twice now — would this repair be covered under extended warranty? I've discovered it uses some kind of 3-pin contact ring system under the steering wheel instead of a proper clock spring (because of course Ford had to be different).

I'm pretty sure one of the contacts looks bent - either from age or from me aggressively mashing buttons trying to get it to work like some kind of RV caveman. Before I start taking apart my steering wheel and inevitably lose three screws that apparently don't exist anywhere else in the universe, does anyone know if these contact rings can actually be repaired? Can you just straighten bent contacts, or am I looking at replacing the whole thing? …more
