Common Ball Mounts
| Drop/Rise | Good For |
|---|---|
| 2" Drop | Stock trucks to most trailers |
| 4" Drop | Lifted trucks or low trailers |
| 6-8" Drop | Significantly lifted trucks |
| 2" Rise | Lowered trucks or high trailers |
| Adjustable | Multiple trailers or unsure |
Why Proper Height Matters
Safety Issues with Wrong Height
- Too high in front: Less tongue weight, can cause trailer sway
- Too low in front: Excess tongue weight, strains truck rear axle
- Either extreme: Poor braking, headlight aim issues, tire wear
Measuring Tips
- Measure with truck loaded (gear, passengers, tongue weight)
- Trailer should be level or slightly nose-down when connected
- Re-measure if you change truck suspension or tires
