E450 V10 Air Filter: How Often to Change on Dusty Roads

Every Saturday I'm planning to tackle my Ford E450 V10's air filter after months of dusty backroad camping — what maintenance schedule should I actually follow? The owner's manual suggests changing the air filter every 30,000 miles, but that seems like a really long interval to me.

I do a fair amount of camping on dusty dirt roads - probably covering about 8-16 miles per month on these conditions to reach remote campsites. I'm worried that all that dust might mean I need to change the filter more frequently than what Ford recommends.

Should I be following a different maintenance schedule given these dusty conditions? And is there anything I should be doing between filter changes to keep things running smoothly? I want to make sure I'm taking proper care of this engine but don't want to over-maintain either. …more

Ford 7.3 Godzilla Starter Relay Location: Fix Stuck Starter Issues in

Finally found the starter relay for my 2022 RV's Ford 7.3 Godzilla engine that keeps staying engaged after startup — but will replacing it actually solve this? This has occurred multiple times and appears to be triggering crankshaft sensor errors, putting the vehicle into limp mode.

Diagnostics point to a faulty starter relay or incomplete grounding in the circuit. Need to locate the starter relay in the Ford 7.3 Godzilla to test and replace if necessary. Where exactly is this relay positioned, and what are the typical failure patterns for this specific issue on the 2022 model year? …more

1988 E350 Class C 460 EFI Won't Start - Advanced Fix

Got stuck with this 1988 E350 Class C 460 EFI that the previous owner left me — thing absolutely refuses to start. My 1988 E350 Class C with the 460 EFI decided to throw the ultimate tantrum right as we were heading out for a trip - just completely died and refuses to start.

Here's where it gets fun (and by fun, I mean expensive): I've got spark, I've got 40 psi fuel pressure at the rail, timing looks good, and I've already thrown money at fuel pumps, filters, plugs, wires, TFI module, distributor, and even the inertia switch. The thing will occasionally act like it wants to fire but never actually starts. The real kicker? Even when I give it a shot of ether, absolutely nothing happens - not even a sputter!

At this point I'm wondering if there's something more advanced going on that I'm missing. When you have spark, fuel pressure, and timing but even ether won't make it fire, what else could be the culprit on these 460 EFI engines? …more

2000 Ford E450 V10 Uphill Power Mods for Mountain Towing

Called three different YouTube tutorials claiming to boost my 2000 Ford E450 V10's uphill towing power, but now my motorhome struggles even worse in the mountains. The unit struggles substantially on extended uphill grades, particularly during Rocky Mountain travel where sustained climbs can last 30+ minutes.

I'm evaluating several modification options to address this performance deficiency: rear differential gear ratio changes, SCT programming modules, K&N high-flow air filtration systems, and catalytic converter removal. I need to understand which modifications will provide measurable uphill towing improvements versus those that offer minimal gains.

What is the relative effectiveness of these power modifications for V10 mountain towing applications? I'm looking for a technical assessment of which upgrades deliver the most significant performance improvements for this specific application. …more

1999 Itasca Sunflyer V10 Drivers Side Coil Bank PCM Issue

Pulled every trick in the book — replaced all five driver side ignition coils, swapped the PCM, checked every connection — my 1999 Itasca Sunflyer V10 still throws codes P0356, P0357, P0358, P0359, P0360. Running on 5 cylinders only.

Tested +12v at each coil connector - all good. Tested for ground pulse during cranking - nothing on drivers side, but passenger side coils pulse normally. No visible wiring damage found.

Does this testing confirm PCM failure in the ground switching circuit? Seems unlikely all 5 coils failed simultaneously. …more

Super Tech DEF vs Blue DEF: Complete RV Owner's Guide to Walmart DEF Quality

Around two years ago I switched from expensive Blue DEF to Walmart's Super Tech DEF on my old rig without problems — but this new motorhome seems pickier. My buddy says all DEF is basically the same stuff, but I don't want to mess around with my diesel pusher's emissions system.

Is Super Tech really equivalent to Blue DEF quality-wise? Are there actual differences between brands or is it just marketing? Worth switching to save some cash or should I stick with what I know works? …more

RV Water Crossing: How to Avoid Engine Damage and Recovery Steps

Woke up to my Winnebago Ekko surrounded by floodwater above the wheel hubs, the engine is completely dead, AND there's moisture creeping into places it definitely shouldn't be. While I haven't noticed any unusual noises or driving behavior, I want to be proactive about potential water exposure damage.

I've checked that the oil isn't milky and brake fluid looks normal. However, I'm concerned about potential impacts on hubs, bearing grease, brake fluid, differential fluid, and transmission fluid from this water exposure.

Has anyone else with an Ekko experienced similar flooding and have recommendations for post-water exposure inspection? Am I being overly cautious about checking various components? I'm hoping to get some expert advice on what specific things I should examine to ensure no long-term damage occurred. …more

Fix Tiffin Phaeton Parking Brake Limp Mode Issue

Three dashboard warning lights are lighting up on my 2018 Tiffin Phaeton 380 Cummins whenever the parking brake engages while running. Worse yet, the engine immediately goes into limp mode and won't rev past idle. Even after releasing the parking brake and the lights go out, the engine stays stuck in limp mode until I restart it. This is really frustrating because it happens every single time I engage the parking brake. We're currently 170 miles from our usual service center and I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction. Has anyone experienced something similar with their Cummins-powered motorhome? …more

Mobile CAT Diesel Engine Repair Service in North Carolina - RV Technical Solutions

Apparently my 2001 Fleetwood Discovery has a failing CAT 330 diesel engine, transmission issues, AND electrical problems all hitting at once. Had battery failure and explosion, replaced batteries. Engine runs smooth but CEL still flashing. Code shows SID 253 FMI 2 - voltage/calibration memory related.

Local tech says needs CAT ET software to clear codes. Need mobile CAT technician in eastern North Carolina area. Is this safe to drive or should I wait for service? Any dealer recommendations for mobile CAT service? …more

SPN 1569 Check Engine Light - Safe to Drive Home?

Spent months dealing with minor SCR issues on my 2014 Tiffin Phaeton, but now it's escalated to a full system replacement and this SPN 1569 check engine light. About 150 miles later got SPN 411 FMI 2, then after 600 more miles got yellow check engine light with SPN 1569 FMI 31. Engine cycling cleared the code and light went off. Cummins said 1569 is engine protection and 411 is erratic values. RV runs fine with no performance issues. I need to drive 1100 miles home next week - is it safe to make the trip? …more
