How to Replace Onan 10KW Generator Isolation Mounts: Complete RV Repair Guide

My 2013 Tiffin Allegro Bus generator (model 10HDKCA11506E) is producing violent shaking and a grinding noise that's absolutely driving me insane. The isolation mounts keep wearing out way too quickly - I just had them replaced 19 months ago and they're already shot again.

Last repair used parts #402-1680-02, but my Onan parts manual shows I should have 2x #402-0728-01 and 2x #402-0728-02 isolators. The generator only has 34 hours since the last mount replacement, and symptoms are obvious - excessive noise, vibration throughout the coach, and the oil drain plug hanging below the frame.

What's the proper way to replace these mounts? Are the parts I'm seeing actually interchangeable, or did the shop potentially use incorrect components? I'm tired of this recurring problem and need a solution that will actually last. …more

Suburban SF-30 Furnace Replacement: Complete Unit vs Core Guide for RV Owners

Somewhere between our freezing mountain trip last month and now, my 2002 Born Free's SF-30 furnace died completely and I'm torn between replacing the core versus the whole unit. I believe it's a Suburban SF-30 model. I've been doing some research and see there are two options - I can buy a complete furnace replacement or just get a replacement core that supposedly slides into the existing SF-30 housing for about half the price.

I'm honestly not sure which route to go. The cost savings on the core is tempting, but I don't want to make the wrong choice and end up with more problems. As someone who's still learning about RV maintenance, would you recommend getting the complete unit or would the core replacement work just as well? Any guidance would be really appreciated! …more

Where to Buy Onan Generator Rubber Isolator Mounts: Complete Sourcing

Got caught in all that rain last week and now my 2008 Jayco Melbourne 29D's Onan 4000 generator rubber isolator mount has completely split and separated. I've tried the usual RV parts sites, checked with local shops, and even called a few places - either they don't carry them or they're backordered for weeks.

I really need to get this fixed before my next camping trip. The generator is already pulled out so it's the perfect time to replace these mounts, but I just can't seem to locate the right parts anywhere. I'm willing to try generic mounts if I can figure out the right measurements, but I'd prefer OEM if possible.

Does anyone know reliable sources where I can actually find these isolator mounts? I'm running out of options here and getting pretty frustrated with the whole situation. …more

RV Battery Charging: Underhood Generators vs Engine Idling Guide

Since my neighbor can boondock for weeks with perfect battery power while mine die after just a few days, what charging method am I missing? I came across this interesting information from a New York City perspective (original link: https://www.msn.com/en-us/travel/ar...S&cvid=f9f9617373f147cba291498b28b099b4&ei=17).

I've been thinking about either just idling my engine to let the alternator do its thing, or maybe installing one of those underhood generators I keep hearing about.

My buddy says idling is fine and super easy, but I'm wondering if there are any downsides I should know about - like regulations or whether it's actually efficient. Are underhood generators worth the investment, or should I be looking at completely different options? What's the real deal here? …more

Cummins Engines in RVs: Diesel vs Gas Options and Maintenance Guide

Wondering if I made the right call upgrading to the new 6.7 Cummins gas engine after weeks of research — still feels like I'm missing something important. Imagine if Freightliner built a new chassis using this specific Cummins gas engine. I would think it would be a great option. I don't imagine Ford would willingly use this engine in the F53 chassis. …more

2014 Thor Challenger Engine Replacement: Complete Cost Guide & Best Options

Already embarrassed to ask this, but my 2014 Thor Challenger's V10 threw a rod in Florida - is replacing it as wallet-crushing as I think? Because apparently my RV has a sense of humor and perfect timing! 🙄

Now I'm staring down the barrel of an engine replacement and trying not to have my own mechanical failure when I see the potential costs. I've heard Jasper engines mentioned, but I'm honestly clueless about what I should expect to pay for a complete engine replacement on this beast.

Anyone been through this wallet-emptying adventure before? What's the realistic price range I'm looking at, and are there any engine brands or shops I should specifically consider (or run screaming from)? …more
