Staring at my Atwood AFMD35 manual that claims it should stay running once lit, but mine keeps shutting off every few minutes like it's playing peek-a-boo. It fires up beautifully for about 5-10 seconds, gets my hopes up that I won't freeze tonight, then promptly shuts off like it's having second thoughts about this whole "heating the RV" thing.

I've ruled out the sail switch and high temp limit since it actually lights (small victories in RV life, right?). Pulled out my entire toolbox and I'm determined to fix this stubborn Dometic RV fridge that won't ignite in gas mode myself — where should I start? The thing works absolutely flawlessly when it's set to AUTO mode - switches from electric to gas without any issues, ignites on the first try, everything's perfect.

But here's where it gets maddening: the moment I manually switch it to gas mode, it completely refuses to ignite. I can hear the gas valve cycling on and off, but the ignitor just won't fire. It tries a few times then gives up and throws the CHECK light. Planning what I thought would be a simple fix for minor rust in my Suburban SW6P pilot light water heater, but now metal chunks pour out every flush. The rust is definitely coming from inside the tank.

Before I go dropping cash on a whole new unit, I'm wondering - is it possible to just swap out the tank itself? Like, can I buy just the tank part and keep my existing housing and all the fittings? And if so, where the heck would I even find a replacement tank for this thing?

My Dometic DFMD35111 furnace does the same infuriating thing every fall — lights perfectly on startup then immediately dies out. The flame lights up no problem, but then it just dies out randomly - sometimes after like 3 seconds, other times it'll run for several minutes before cutting out. It's totally unpredictable.

I've already cleaned out some bugs from the burner area and messed with the sail switch, but it's still doing this intermittent thing. The flame sensor looks pretty gunky though.
