RV PEX Plumbing Fittings Guide: Crimp vs SharkBite vs FIP Connections Explained

Got what's probably a dumb question, but why do I have like three different types of PEX fittings in my RV and which ones should I actually be using for repairs? The current setup has what I believe are crimp rings on the PEX lines, but I'm seeing different types of fittings available and I'm confused about which approach is best for a DIY repair.

I've been looking at compression fittings, push-to-connect options like SharkBite, and traditional crimp rings, but I'm not sure which system actually works with RV PEX plumbing. Some of my connections are also threaded at the water pump and manifold areas, and I keep seeing references to FIP connections but I'm not entirely clear on what that means in the context of RV plumbing.

What's the difference between these connection types for RV PEX systems, and which option would be easiest for someone doing their own plumbing repairs? I want to make sure I'm using the right fittings and tools before I start tearing into my water system. …more

How to Replace a Fisher Paykel Drawer Dishwasher in Your RV: Complete

The Fisher and Paykel drawer dishwasher in our motorhome just went completely dead and I'm worried about electrical hazards with kids around. It's the same brand I have at home, and I'm wondering if I'm overthinking this whole situation.

Can I just grab a regular residential Fisher and Paykel drawer dishwasher and swap it in? I mean, dirty dishes are dirty dishes whether you're parked in a Walmart lot or your driveway, right? Or is there some RV voodoo that makes the home version incompatible with my rolling palace?

Before I potentially turn my galley into a flood zone, has anyone successfully done this swap? What should I be checking to make sure I don't create an expensive water feature where my dishwasher used to be? …more

Using Household Water Supply Lines in RV: Pressure Impact

Got this annoying water pump vibration in my RV and can't afford a service call right now — any way to fix it for under $50? Right now I have 1/2" PEX connected directly to the pump discharge, but I've read that's not the best setup and can cause vibrations throughout the system.

I'm thinking about installing one of those braided stainless steel supply lines (like the ones used for household faucets) right after the pump to help dampen the vibrations. The thing is, most of the braided supply lines I'm seeing are 3/8" inside diameter, while my current PEX is 1/2".

I'm worried about creating a bottleneck that might hurt my water pressure or flow rate. Would switching from 1/2" PEX to a 3/8" braided line right at the pump discharge significantly impact my water flow? I don't want to solve the vibration problem but end up with weak water pressure throughout the RV. Any guidance would be really appreciated! …more
