Ford V10 Triton Engine Maintenance Guide: EGR Delete vs Regular Service Tips

Ford V10 Triton Engine Maintenance Guide: EGR Delete vs Regular Service Tips

Spent years doing regular EGR maintenance on my old gas motorhome without issues — but this 2007 Fleetwood 31' Tioga with Ford V10 Triton has me second-guessing everything. I keep reading conflicting information about EGR delete procedures on V10 engines, and I'm worried I might make things worse if I mess with it.

Is the EGR delete modification actually necessary on this 2007 3-valve V10, or am I overthinking this? I don't want to void any warranties or create problems that weren't there before. Would I be better off just sticking to regular maintenance instead of modifications? I'm looking for reassurance that I'm taking the right approach to keep this engine running reliably for years to come. …more

Best OBD2 Scanner for Ford E450 V10 Motorhome: Top 3 Diagnostic Tools

Three different OBD2 scanners are showing 6 active codes on my 2015 Ford E450 V10 motorhome but every manual says this engine should only throw 2-3 max. I've been dealing with intermittent check engine lights and some transmission quirks, but my basic code reader just gives me generic codes that don't tell me much.

I keep hearing about tools like BlueDriver and some Ford-specific software, but I'm not sure what actually works well with these motorhome chassis. I need something that can give me real Ford-specific diagnostics, not just the basic OBD2 stuff. Has anyone found a scanner or diagnostic tool that actually works properly with the E450 V10 setup? I'm willing to learn something new if it means getting better diagnostic capability. …more

2022 Ford E450 Check Engine Light: Complete DIY Troubleshooting Guide

Last week marked the third time this month my 2022 Ford E450 motorhome check engine light flicked on at only 4,000 miles and I'm done with mechanics. Last month I had the engine serviced at a local shop, and everything seemed fine when I drove it home. The RV ran perfectly for several weeks without any issues whatsoever.

Yesterday when I started the engine, the check engine light came on and stayed illuminated. According to my Ford owner's manual, this particular warning light is typically related to emissions system problems rather than more serious engine damage. The timing is suspicious given that it appeared shortly after the recent service work.

I don't currently have an OBD2 scanner to pull the specific diagnostic codes, and I'm really hoping to avoid another expensive trip back to the shop just to have them run basic diagnostics. Before I spend more money on professional diagnosis, are there any standard troubleshooting steps I can perform myself to potentially identify and fix simple issues that commonly cause check engine lights on these Ford E450 chassis? I'm particularly interested in emissions-related problems that might have been disturbed during routine service. …more

Torque Pro App Review: Complete RV Engine Monitoring with OBD2 Diagnostic Tool

The previous owner of this used RV left me completely in the dark about monitoring what's actually happening with the engine! I recently bought an OBD Link adapter and an Amazon Fire tablet specifically to use the Torque Pro app for engine monitoring. I'm pretty much a caveman when it comes to technology, and I'm currently stuck trying to figure out how to set up the dashboard.

I keep hearing horror stories about transmission temps and engine issues that could have been caught early with proper monitoring. Problem is, I have no clue how to actually configure the app to show me useful data. Anyone have tips for getting the Torque Pro dashboard set up for someone who's totally tech-challenged? Bonus points if you can help me understand how to get meaningful information without wanting to throw my device out the window! …more

Ford V10 Engine Hesitation: Complete RV Troubleshooting Guide

I turned what started as minor hesitation in my 2014 Fleetwood Bounder Classic on a 2013 F53 chassis with a 6.8L V10 last month into complete engine performance nightmares. With 29,000 miles on the odometer, I'm experiencing an intermittent problem that makes you want to pull your hair out. The engine runs fine most of the time, but then randomly when I step on the gas - especially after downshifting or at low speeds after a turn - it just hesitates as if the key was turned off, though the engine is still running.

I'm pretty handy with basic maintenance but not sure where to start with this kind of issue. No computer codes are being generated, which makes diagnosis tricky. Is this a common V10 problem? What are the usual suspects I should check first before taking it to a shop and getting hit with a huge diagnostic bill? …more

Ford V10 P0171 Code: Is It Safe to Drive Your RV? Lean System Diagnosis & Repair Guide

Finally dealing with my Ford V10 throwing the P0171 lean code for the third time this season and I'm absolutely done with these guessing games. My Ford V10 with 60,500 miles threw this code during our recent trip from Maine to Virginia, and while there are absolutely no drivability issues - no rough idle, stalling, or poor performance - I'm terrified something catastrophic could happen on the road.

I've already cleaned the MAF sensor and had a local mechanic check for vacuum leaks and run a detailed diagnostic, which found no performance issues and cleared the Check Engine Light. The engine runs perfectly fine, but that check engine light has me spooked. What if I'm damaging the engine by driving it? Should I be monitoring for specific symptoms? I keep reading horror stories online about lean conditions causing engine failure.

I really don't want to get stranded somewhere or cause expensive damage, but I also don't want to cancel our upcoming trip to Florida if it's actually safe to drive. Has anyone dealt with this specific code on a Ford V10? What should I be watching for, and is it actually dangerous to drive with P0171 when the engine seems to be running normally? …more
